International Projects
The FCC group is deployed in more than 30 countries with very different risk levels, culture and forms of government. In some of those countries phenomena such as terrorism or organized crime are a main concern. This diversity of the environment and the associated risks has to be taken into account by the managers of international projects both from the business running and the security points of view.
In terms of Duty of Care the safety and security of internationally displaced employees and of international travellers must be ensured. We must also cater for the safety and security of local employees, whose performance and knowledge in the field contribute to solving all kinds of problems arising from cultural and environmental differences. The Corporate Security Department (CSD) is responsible for supporting the exercise of this Duty of Care. The risk map on this page includes information of interest on the countries where FCC is present and the department's assessment on the security risk level in each of them. If necessary additional information or assessments may be requested by contacting the department.
As for the business point of view we need to assess how the threats and risks in each particular country affect our personnel and assets, with a view to planning and implementing a security scheme that is adapted to the environment and minimizes the risks. To that effect it is advisable to count on the assistance of FCC´s Corporate Security Department. See on this page application form to request security advice for projects.
During the execution of projects an adequate knowledge and understanding of the local culture and norms and a respectful relationship with the local community contribute to promoting safety and security and to making our employee's daily lives and business practices easier. At this stage it is essential to maintain a disciplined incident reporting that allows for the company to take appropriate action and, if the incident is serious, to deal with a potential crisis with the foreseen Crisis Management mechanisms. Moreover incident reporting helps to keep risk assessments up to date and to collect experiences and lessons learned in order to prevent future incidents in similar situations. A link to the security incident report form is included on this page.
In summary international projects have certain particularities that must be taken into account by the business managers and by the CSD. From the security point of view it is necessary among other factors to look into the situation in the project area or country, the culture, the legal framework or the risk level. The security department has specific tools to support staff and business at the international level. Information about them can be found on this website.
